AuditionsWe hold auditions for vacancies and for other instruments for our reserve list at the start of Michaelmas term. If you wish to audition then send us an email or see us at next year's Fresher's Fair. Our auditions generally involve sight reading some band pieces, although people are also welcome to bring a pre-rehearsed piece or show us their improvising skills if they wish. The details vary depending on the instrument but you will of course get full details before the audition. Playing with Selwyn JazzWe do not ask our members to pay a subscription charge but you will need to have your own instrument and be able to keep it in good working order. In order to maintain a high standard of playing despite the short terms, we expect band members to make reasonable attempts to attend all rehearsals. These are usually on Monday evenings during the University terms (although this may change next year). Arrangements in Easter Term vary depending on people's availablilties and workload in the exam term. The rehearsal venue for the 2008/9 academic year is the Selwyn Diamond. Finally, the band would not survive on music alone so you can expect a few nights out to let off steam during the term. |
