22nd June 2006 - The end of a successful year

Trinity Hall June Event marked the end of a successful year for Selwyn Jazz. We've had a great selection of gigs and have enjoyed ourselves immensely. As we break up for the summer we say goodbye to Geoff, Sophie, Adam and Rich who will be dissappearing to various parts of the world.

9th May 2006 - Wolfson off

Unfortunately this weekend's Wolfson gig has been cancelled as Wolfson's hard working students look for peace and quiet in the run up to the exam season. Not to miss out on an opportunity for some fun, we went to La Raza for a meal instead of tonight's pre-gig rehearsal.

10th April 2006 - Plans for next term

We have a positive proliferation of engagements in our calendar for next term in the shape of balls, garden parties and bar gigs. Keep an eye on the gigs section of the website for details of confirmed gigs..

1st Mar 2006 - New talent

Sadly two members of the band, James Traer and Torben Rees have left the band to pursue study and work among other things. However, we are also fortunate to be able to simultaneously welcome two new players in the shape of Faye Goldman on Bass and Tom Smith on Alto Sax.

26th Jan 2006 - SJ gets popular!

With three more gigs confirmed and some more being negotiated we have a busy schedule for this term. See our bookings page for details of our up and coming gigs.

21st Jan 2006 - Gig Update

So far we have one confirmed gig on the cards for this term and a few in the works. See the bookings page for more details.

8th Nov 2005 - Christ's Gig Cancelled

Sadly we were informed today that the organisers have had to cancel the gig on Saturday due to reasons beyond their control. All is not lost however as it's curry time! We now have a band social instead.

28th Oct 2005 - Gig Update

So far two gigs are on the cards for this term. We've been invited to play on the 20th Nov at Wolfson Bar as one of their "Smooth Sundays". We have also have a gig at Christ's on 12th Nov.

21st Oct 2005 - New Members

With the first two rehearsals of term gone, we can introduce our new members, Julian Johnson joins the sax section on Tenor Sax and Andy Patterson has joined the trumpet section. There has also been some rearranging in the Sax section with Sophie moving to Alto and Stephan picking up the Bari.

11th Oct 2005 - Start of a new year

Today is the start of Selwyn Jazz for academic year 2005-2006. Dave Bean steps into Melissa Milner's shoes as Musical Director with Jon Mathews and Anthony Green trying to get a grip on organising the band.

20th June 2005 - Final preperations for May Week

Exams are nearly over for most people, so final preperations are being made for our last gigs of the season at Trinity Hall June Event and Darwin May ball. Both gigs look set to be a great night going by our the reception of our gigs earlier this year at both venues.

22nd May 2005 - Selwyn Ents

Last night's performance in Selwyn's hall was a resounding success as the venue was packed out. It also featured some different vocals and vocalists as Kathy and guest vocalist Anthony paired up for "The Lady is a Tramp" and lead trumpeter Brendan Bates gave a rendition of "Have You Met Miss Jones"

8th Apr 2005 - Trinity Hall invites us back

After our rousing performance In Trinity Hall for their end of term bop we've been invited back! Once again we'll be taking the stage near the bar to wow the dance floor with a couple of hours of live jazz, this time at the Trinity Hall June Event.

11th Feb 2005 - Chinese New Year

The 11th Feb saw us playing at the Cambridge Chinese New Year Festival in the Cambridge Guildhall The gig was fantastically received, and was a prime opportunity to show off our latest additions to the band, not least the dazzling Kathy Mather singing some favourite numbers.

10th Jan 2005 - New Year Swings Around

Selwyn Jazz swung into 2005 with four new members : James Traer on bass, Sophie Ibbotson on baritone, Chris Dysli on trombone, and Kathy Mather on vocals.

16th Dec 2004 - Kings Christmas Dinner

Our gig in the Great Hall at King's College went down hugely well. Masses of postgraduates let their hair down and danced the night away to our varied but much appreciated lineup.

25th Nov 2004 - Darwin Bar Gig

"Just to say well played for tonight - you were brilliant and the HUGE crowd and Darwin clearly loved it! ...it was a really good start to this year's performance schedule." - Mel.
